Our Story

A cop, a nurse, a whole lot of faith, and a few too many dogs.

Who We Are

We're a law enforcement family — plain and simple. He wears the badge. She wears the scrubs. And together, we're navigating the beautiful chaos of raising kids, keeping a marriage strong, walking with God, and somehow still finding time to love on our dogs.

He's been in law enforcement for over a decade — patrol, investigations, and everything in between. The kind of career that shapes how you see the world, tests your limits, and makes you grateful for every quiet moment at home.

She's a registered nurse — emergency and critical care — and she carries her own badge of courage every single shift. Twelve hours on her feet, holding someone's hand through the worst day of their life, then coming home to be Mom. She knows what it's like to miss bedtime because the ER got slammed. She knows the look on a patient's family's face when the news isn't good. And she knows how to compartmentalize all of that, walk through the front door, and be fully present for her kids — even when she's running on four hours of sleep and cold coffee.

Being a nurse married to a cop means she gets it in a way most people can't. She doesn't just support a first responder — she is one. The exhaustion, the emotional weight, the holidays spent at work instead of with family — she lives all of it from both sides. And honestly? This blog wouldn't exist without her perspective. Half of what we write comes from conversations at the kitchen table after shifts that were too heavy to carry alone.

Why We Started This Blog

When we started looking for resources that spoke to our life — all of it — we came up short. There were plenty of gear review sites. Some great devotionals. A few marriage blogs. But nothing that wove it all together the way our life actually works.

Because in this house, a conversation about body armor can lead to a prayer over dinner which leads to a debate about which dog breed makes the best family companion. That's real life for us. And we figured if we needed a place like this, other families probably did too.

What You'll Find Here

Shield & Faith is where faith meets the frontline. We write about:

Gear that actually works — honest, field-tested reviews from someone who's actually worn it on duty. No fluff, no paid endorsements disguised as opinions.

Marriage under pressure — because loving a first responder (or being one who's trying to love well) comes with a unique set of challenges that most marriage books don't cover. When both of you work high-stress, life-or-death jobs, you learn fast that "normal" relationship advice doesn't always apply.

The nurse life — she's not just the cop's wife. She's a healthcare warrior in her own right. We write about nurse burnout, shift survival, self-care that actually fits a 12-hour schedule, and what it's like when both parents are first responders.

Faith for the fight — devotions, prayers, and biblical encouragement written specifically for law enforcement families. Not churchy platitudes — real words for real situations.

Parenting through the chaos — raising kids with one parent on shift work and the other on call. We share what works, what doesn't, and what keeps us sane.

Mental health, for real — breaking the stigma around first responder wellness. PTSD, burnout, sleep, fitness, and the courage it takes to ask for help.

Dog life — because our dogs are family. Training tips, breed insights, K9 stories, and all the furry chaos that comes with being a multi-dog household.

Our Faith

Everything we do is rooted in our faith in Jesus Christ. We're not perfect — not even close. But we believe that God called us to these careers, to this family, and to this life. And we believe He's with us through every shift, every sleepless night, and every hard conversation.

This blog isn't a pulpit. It's a front porch. Pull up a chair, grab some coffee, and let's talk about what it means to live faithfully in a world that doesn't always make it easy.
